Assorted topics of interest.

Well, it's been an interesting week...

Won my Tribunal hearing, and we've got our apartment April 30 (which is a month later than we originally wanted, but we'll go with it). Selling stuff on ebay these days, and apparently there's good money in cosmetics!

The snow has gotten crazy here, and I need to go on the roof and pull it off (at Duke St.). Can you believe that Danielle and are are able to subsist on my four days of work/week?! That's sweet.

Danielle got her passport, so mine must not be far behind.

Essie left a message on my blog. If you know who she is, please inform me! (I'm stunned that someone I don't know would post to my blog!)

What else? Anyone want to buy a used car? Um, can you believe that my heating/plumming guy has gotten over $5000 out of me since November. No wonder I have no extra cash! Oh, my guitar should be in any day now...everyone else has gotten their instruments, and I'm still waiting.

I guess that's it for now....toodles.

Wombats are cute

Wombats are really cute.

Here's a photo of a wombat, in case you don't know what they look like.
Here's infromation about wombats, courtsey of Wikipedia.

As you can tell, I haven't got much to say.

I don't blog enough

Still don't know how to preset the fonts....

Clearly I don't blog enough. NEways, going to Tribunal next week, so we can move into the 'cheap' apartment. Too bad about the tenants--they were nice. But since Danielle isn't working, we can't afford the bigger apartment. However, it's nice to think that we can survive on my 4 days-a-week at the store, and her not working at all. We've actually gained some freedom. I guess we're making some right decisions.

Looking at Taiwan and Korea pretty seriously. Good money, and we could really get ahead with the money we'd make there and invest in real estate here. We could be settled VERY nicely in 5 years. Plus we'd get an opportunity to see the world, and learn about some things outside ourselves.

Don't know...what else. Aly was referring to Valentines Day (blech) as VD. I thought she meant something else by "VD"....I guess it has about the same connotation.

Why blog?

First off, if anybody knows how to set Trebuchet and small font sizes as default, let me know ASAP!

Why do we blog? This blog has gone all crooked. I was supposed to document all my goals and successes. I have no idea what I'm doing. Rambling, I suppose.

I've been reading my sister's blog (hi Aly) and I've come to the conclusion that I've become old and outdated. Her writing is so much more sophisticated than mine, and yet cooler too. Something about being a grad student...she's left me in the dust, intellectually. I can barely get up in the morning anymore, and she's kicking ass....good for you kid!

However, I feel so stagnant. Perhaps Taiwan might help, but I suspect that after the novelty wears off, it'll be more of the same for me (anger, frustration, and an assortment of other negative emotions about the state of the world these days). Don't believe me? Just check out global dimming, GM foods and the current debate around asparatame, and the fact that Danielle quit what should have been a perfectly good job that turned out to be shit on all fronts.

North America is sick, and it's getting sicker. The Malaise of Modernity indeed. Maybe I should try and actually FINISH my philosophy degree in earnest. With my properties, I could AFFORD grad school. Maybe I'm just jealous of Alyson. I think leaving the continent for an extended period of time will be good for me. Get rid of my car and most of my lowly possessions. Rethink the way I view my life and the world, maybe actually get back to my Buddhist roots....

Ironically, it's the longing and the anger and frustration that have moved me from my center. Just as North America is sick (and getting sicker), so am I.

For the record, I won't be selling off anything of great personal value.

All the books, CDs and Movies will be put into storage!

Misc Ramblings

"My brother and I used to say that drowning in beer was like heaven, eh. Now he's not here, and I've got two soakers. This isn't heaven--this sucks!" - Bob McKenzie

So, New Mexico is poised to ban the artificial sweetener, aspartame. Oddly enough, it was introduced to the consuming public by our good friend, Donald Rumsfeld.

So, for those of you paying attention. Danielle has opted out of teaching a brutally bad course schedule at Widdifield. It's sad the way the education system works, and the way in which they tried to dupe her into taking the position. We're just both feeling good, that though our choices, and our discipline, she was able to refuse the position without too much sacrifice on our part.

Given our restrained financial situation, we're moving, and liquidating many of our possessions. Longer-term, everyone around is (you know who you are, people!) are supporting us in going to teach overseas. Taiwan looks like the locale of choice (and I was just starting to get comfortable with the Japanese language!). We'll see how long this takes....
